We offer a Group Leader position in the newly formed CENTERA research unit (Center for Terahertz Research and Applications) of the CEZAMAT Center of Advanced Materials and Technologies, Warsaw University of Technology.
The successfull applicant will lead WorkGroup 3 (Modeling) of the CENTERA Unit. The objective of this workgroup is to develop modeling tools that would provide deep understanding and facilitate design of novel sources of THz radiation based on novel phenomena utilising electric and magnetic excitations in low dimensional materials. In addition, it should develop a user friendly software package THz SYSTEM SIMULATOR for reliable modeling of already existing and future terahertz systems. WG3 should also support experimental activities of CENTERA2.
The leader is expected to organize work of WG3, seek more funding, prepare manuscripts and reports, support commercialization and promote development of staff and collaboration with other WGs.
Place, form and conditions of employment:
• full-time employment contract;
• stationary work at the Center for Advanced Materials and Technologies CEZAMAT of Warsaw University of Technology, Poleczki 19 Street, 02-822 Warsaw;
• period of employment: 3-month probationary period (total contract period including probationary period until 30.04.2029);
• work on the implementation of the research project entitled. “CENTERA2 Center for Terahertz Research and Applications”.
Responsibilities and role in the research team:
• The main task of WG3 is to develop modeling tools that provide a good understanding of the mechanisms and enable the design of new THz radiation sources based on new phenomena using electrical and magnetic excitations in low-dimensional materials. We expect the development of the THz SYSTEMS SYMULATOR software package for reliable modeling of terahertz systems. In parallel, the Group should support experimental activities throughout the project.
• From the WG3 leader, we expect activities leading to the organization of WG3 research, the acquisition of additional funding, the preparation of publications and reports, support for commercialization, the promotion of WG3 staff development and cooperation with other WGs.
Requirements:
1. PhD in the research field corresponding to key responsibilities.
2. Broad experience (with publications) in several of the following:
• the multi-scale modeling of electrical and magnetic properties of various systems involving atomistic and continuous methodologies such as: (i) ab initio methods in the framework of density functional theory (DFT) and employing various numerical packages, (ii) tight-binding methods, (iii) valence force field methods, (iv) effective hamiltonians for electronic and magnetic properties of systems; (v) Monte Carlo approaches;
• modeling electronic and spin transport on nano and mesoscopic scales within coherent and diffusive transport regimes;
• modeling of the external magnetic field influence on electronic properties and transport in nano-systems;
• Machine Learning and AI methods for investigation of materials properties;
3. Record of cooperations with experimental groups;
4. Record of participation as a leader in scientific projects;
5. Considerable contribution to a research project which resulted in the development of a simulation tool for modeling transport in semiconductor systems and devices;
6. Active supervision of PhD theses (at least three PhDs within the last five years);
7. Knowledge of English sufficient to communicate and write research manuscripts;
8. Accepted candidate will be required to submit a short description (up to 3 pages) of the planned R&D agenda of his/her group within 2 months of signing a contract.
Selection process:
The recruitment is conducted under the supervision of the International Scientific Committee of CENTERA2 (ISC).
Candidates, who submit a complete and legible application, will be screened by a recruitment committee and evaluated against announced requirements (skills list and eligibility criteria) with particular attention to:
1. Value and originality of up to 3 of the candidate’s best scientific achievements from the last 10 years in the field(s) specified in eligibility criteria – against the background of achievements of the world’s best scientific centers in these fields;
2. Candidate’s experience in leading a research team or their potential to be a leader;
3. Candidate’s experience in implementing grant projects – being a project leader, package/group leader or similar;
4. Candidate’s experience in commercialization of research results and cooperation with business;
5. Candidate’s record as a supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of doctoral theses.
Each ISC member participating in the recruitment process will award each eligible candidate a total score of 0 to 5 points (in full steps) for their compliance with the evaluation criteria. These scores will be averaged and a preliminary ranking of candidates will be established. The final ISC recommendation (or rejection of all candidates) will be worked out through a discussion and confirmed by a vote in accordance with the ISC regulations.
Selected candidates will be invited for a interview (online) in front of the committee in September/October 2025. WUT reserves the rights to close the competition without selecting a candidate. In such a case, a new job offer will be announced.

f) a list of research, teaching and organizational output and achievements plus an additional section (up to 1 page) presenting up to 3 most important scientific achievements of the candidate from last 10 years in the field in which the research is to be carried out;
g) other documents certifying additional qualifications
h) acknowledgement of WUT as a primary place of employment, as defined in the Act of Law on Higher Education and Science
i) a declaration on:
• the full capacity to perform acts in law
• enjoying full civil rights
• not being convicted by a valid sentence for an intentional crime or an intentional tax offence
• no disciplinary penalty as defined in Article 276 section 1 items 7 and 8 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 being imposed on them
2. PhD in physics or related field providing for an understanding of THz properties of solids;
3. Good publication record in the field(s) specified.
4. Ability to independently run investigations.
5. Good spoken and written English.
6. Motivation for research work.

Under Article 13 of the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the European Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons concerning the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation, Journal of Laws EU L 119/1 of 4 May 2016), hereinafter referred to as „GDPR”, the Warsaw University of Technology announces that:
1. The administrator of your personal data is the Warsaw University of Technology with its registered seat at pl. Politechniki 1, 00-661 Warsaw.
2. The Administrator has appointed the Inspector for Data Protection (IOD – Inspektor Ochrony Danych), who ensures that the data are processed lawfully, and can be contacted via email: iod@pw.edu.pl: iod@pw.edu.pl.
3. The Administrator shall process the personal data included in the documents related to the competition.
4. Your personal data shall be processed by the Administrator to run a competition for the position of academic teacher, in compliance with Article 6 section 1 point c) of GDPR.
5. The Warsaw University of Technology shall not transfer your data outside the European Economic Area.
6. You shall have the right to access your personal data, the right to request the correction or deletion of the data, the right to request a restriction to process your personal data, and object to processing your data. Since the data are not processed based on your consent, the right to data portability does not apply.
7. Your personal data shall not be disclosed to any other subjects (administrators) except for the subjects entitled, in compliance with generally applicable laws.
8. Subjects (processing subjects) commissioned by the Warsaw University of Technology to perform actions that may relate to personal data processing may have access to your personal data.
9. The Warsaw University of Technology shall not subject you to automated decisionmaking, including your profiling.
10. You shall provide your personal data voluntarily. Nevertheless, failure to do so renders it impossible to participate in a competition for the position of academic teacher.
11. Your personal data shall be processed within no longer than 3 months of closing the competition for the position of academic teacher and within a period indispensable to secure any possible claims.
12. If you think your data protection rights as specified in GDPR have been breached, you have the right to lodge a complaint to a supervising body – the Polish Data Protection Commissioner.
