Mariusz Pietrzak PhD, DSc.
Biography
He has been associated with the Warsaw University of Technology for over 20 years - a graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry at the Warsaw University of Technology. He graduated in 2003 in the field of polymer technology after completion of the research project under the supervision of prof. Zbigniew Florjańczyk. He obtained a PhD in Chemistry in 2008 working under the supervision of prof. Elżbieta Malinowska. He obtained his postdoctoral degree in 2018. Since 2019, he has been employed as an associate professor.
He was awarded the KEN Medal. Since 2009 he has supervised more than 50 diploma theses. He played a role of an auxiliary supervisor in two completed PhD theses. Currently a supervisor of 2 PhD students. As a part of his didactic activity, he lectures for students of Biotechnology, both in first and second cycle studies. These lectures cover issues related to electrochemical techniques, bioanalytical methods as well as sensors and biosensors. He also teaches PhD students, among others, in the framework of the course on the use of nanomaterials in bioanalytical and theranostics. Leader (or stage manager) of several grants financed by the National Science Center and the National Center for Research and Development.
For almost 2 years he worked at University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) as a research fellow. A laureate of the FNP Start program and a beneficiary of the CSZ scholarship for young scientists. Repeatedly awarded with the award of the Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology for scientific and didactic achievements. Member of the organizing and scientific committee of several international conferences. Author and co-author of scientific articles and papers presented at both Polish and international scientific conferences.
Research areas
He focuses his research interest on optical, electrochemical and mass biosensors, biotests and chemical sensors, and particularly on the development and modification of receptor layers of these devices. His also investigates the interactions of various receptors with clinically and environmentally relevant analytes. His research activity concerns the synthesis, modification and application of nanomaterials for bioanalytics and theranostics. In particular, the surface modification of nanoparticles, and studies on the properties of nanozymes and their conjugation with biological receptors, and also the use of such conjugates in immunoassays are within his area of expertise. His works concern both the basic issues and the application of the developed materials for the construction of modern bioanalytical tools.
