Innovative hyperhidrosis therapy using a proprietary cosmeceutical containing recombinant neurotoxin

29 November 2024

The Center for Advanced Materials and Technology CEZAMAT WUT, in partnership with Science4Beauty, is participating in an innovative project aimed at developing a groundbreaking therapy for hyperhidrosis. This initiative focuses on the creation of a cosmeceutical product incorporating recombinant neurotoxins, offering a novel approach to reducing excessive sweating.

Approximately 3% of the population is estimated to suffer from excessive sweating, a condition for which existing therapies are often either ineffective, associated with significant side effects, or prohibitively expensive. The newly developed preparation will utilize a biological mechanism – the blocking of the Nav1.8 sodium channel located on the surface of nerve cells in the skin. Thanks to this innovative approach, the project aims to deliver a solution that is eco-friendly, sustainable, and non-invasive.

Planned Activities:

Development of a production method for recombinant neurotoxins,

Creation of a stable cosmetic formulation,

Validation of the cosmeceutical’s efficacy in clinical trials.

The project is being carried out by the consortium of Science4Beauty Sp. z o.o. (project leader) and the Warsaw University of Technology (CEZAMAT), co-financed by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) under the European Funds for a Modern Economy (FENG) program.

It is worth emphasizing that the funding was awarded as part of the prestigious SMART competition, where our project was selected among an elite group of only 51 proposals approved for funding out of 566 submissions in this call.
