Competition for the position of Assistant professor 1 (M/F) and Assistant professor 2 (M/F)

Two persons will be employed for Project No. FENG.02.01-IP.05-T004/23 titled “CENTERA2 Center for Terahertz Research and Applications”. The project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Funds for Smart Economy 2021-2027 (FENG), Competition of the Foundation for Polish Science, Priority 2 Innovation-friendly environment, Measure 2.1 International Research Agendas.

 

Place, form and conditions of employment:

  • full-time employment contract;
  • stationary work at the Center for Advanced Materials and Technologies CEZAMAT of Warsaw University of Technology, Poleczki 19 Street, 02-822 Warsaw;
  • work on the implementation of the research project entitled “Center for Terahertz Research and Applications CENTERA2” , project number: FENG.02.01-IP.05-T004/23.

 

Responsibilities and role in the research team:

We offer two junior postdoctoral positions in newly formed CENTERA research unit (Center for Terahertz Research and Applications) of the CEZAMAT Center of Advanced Materials and Technologies, Warsaw University of Technology.

The successful applicants will join Work Group 3 of the CENTERA Unit, led by Prof. Jacek A. Majewski. This workgroup is dedicated to two main research tasks: (i) modeling electric and magnetic excitations in two-dimensional (2D) materials, and (ii) charge transport in plasmonic crystals with a two-dimensional electron gas on metasurfaces to deepen the understanding of observed phenomena and identify new applications in THz technologies.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Modeling excitations and transport in 2D materials and devices based on these materials;
  • Collaborating with members of the CENTERA2 team, as well as with researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology and national and international partner institutions;
  • Disseminating research results—scientific publications and conference presentations;
  • Developing ideas for new research directions and grants’ proposals.

 

Requirements:

  • PhD degree obtained not earlier than in 2021, in a field related to the scientific profile of the position;
  • a very good command of English sufficient to write research paper manuscripts;
  • Research profile consistent with the specialization in physics, and/or quantum chemistry, and/or materials engineering;
  • Solid knowledge of condensed matter physics or quantum chemistry, in particular concerning the electronic properties of low-dimensional systems;
  • To have documented research experience in the field of modeling electronic properties of crystalline and/or molecular systems employing density functional theory, tight-binding theory, or valence force field methods;
  • Proficiency in PYTHON programming environment.

 

Recruitment process:

  • summary meeting of the recruitment committee;
  • announcement of recruitment results – recruitment results will be sent to candidates by email and published on the CEZAMAT website.

The results of the recruitment process are final and cannot be appealed.

The recruitment process is planned for May 2026.

  • copy of the diploma of higher education confirming the obtained master’s degree or an equivalent degree;
  • a certified copy of the PhD diploma;
  • a list of research, teaching and organizational output and achievements;
  • other documents certifying additional qualifications;
  • acknowledgement of WUT as a primary place of employment, as defined in the Act of Law on Higher Education and Science;
  • a declaration on:
    • the full capacity to perform acts in law;
    • enjoying full civil rights;
    • not being convicted by a valid sentence for an intentional crime or an intentional tax offence;
    • no disciplinary penalty as defined in Article 276 section 1 items 7 and 8 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 being imposed on them.
