We offer a Group Leader position in the newly formed CENTERA research unit (Center for Terahertz Research and Applications) of the CEZAMAT Center of Advanced Materials and Technologies, Warsaw University of Technology.
The successful applicant will lead WorkGroup 4 (Systems and Demonstrators) with objective to develop prototypes (TRL3 to TRL7) of sensors, antennas (incl. on-chip-packages) and measurement systems of sub-THz frequency bands oriented towards imaging for industrial applications, devices for material characterization, thickness gauges, near-field radar sensors etc.; incl. new measurement and signal processing techniques, algorithms for their control, derivation of the parameters of interest and image reconstruction.
The leader should seek more funding, mentor the staff of WG4 and develop collaboration with other WGs, showing efficiency in protecting IP by supervising patenting, licensing and technology transfer towards commercial partners.
Place, form and conditions of employment:
- full-time employment contract;
- stationary work at the Center for Advanced Materials and Technologies CEZAMAT of Warsaw University of Technology, Poleczki 19 Street, 02-822 Warsaw;
- period of employment: 3-month probationary period (total contract period including probationary period until 30.04.2029)
- work on the implementation of the research project entitled. “CENTERA2 Center for Terahertz Research and Applications”.
Responsibilities and role in the research team:
- The candidate will lead WG4 (Terahertz Devices & Systems), which will aim to develop prototypes (TRL3 to TRL7) of sensors, antennas (including on-chip) and sub- and terahertz measurement systems for applications such as imaging systems and industrial scanners, materials characterization, thickness measurement and near-field radar sensors with object recognition capability. WG4 may develop new measurement approaches and signal processing techniques, as well as algorithms and programs for device control and for reading and reconstructing object and image parameters.
- The WG4 leader will obtain additional funding, organize and direct the work of WG4, the protection of the IP produced, its commercialization, the scientific development of its staff and cooperation with other WGs and industrial partners.
Requirements:
- PhD in radiocommunication physics, high-frequency electronics or related discipline that would provide in-depth understanding of wave propagation phenomena between antennas, near-field sensors and tested objects
- Experience in microwave methods and devices for nondestructive testing
- Knowledge of modern electromagnetic simulation tools
- Experience in the development of microwave , millimeter-wave or THz sensors with TRL>4 for nondestructive testing.
- Proven knowledge of patenting procedures supported by patents in the domain of microwave or THz technology will be important asset.
- Experience and willingness to supervise the students as well as young postdocs
- Proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French, Polish or/and Russian will be an additional asset, but is not required.
- Accepted candidate will be required to submit a short description (up to 3 pages) of the planned R&D agenda of his/her group within 2 months of signing a contract.
Selection process:
The recruitment is conducted under the supervision of the International Scientific Committee of CENTERA2 (ISC).
Candidates, who submit a complete and legible application, will be screened by a recruitment committee and evaluated against announced requirements (skills list and eligibility criteria) with particular attention to:
- Value and originality of up to 3 of the candidate’s best scientific achievements from the last 10 years in the field(s) specified in eligibility criteria – against the background of achievements of the world’s best scientific centers in these fields;
- Candidate’s experience in leading a research team or their potential to be a leader;
- Candidate’s experience in implementing grant projects – being a project leader, package/group leader or similar;
- Candidate’s experience in commercialization of research results and cooperation with business;
- Candidate’s record as a supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of doctoral theses;
Each ISC member participating in the recruitment process will award each eligible candidate a total score of 0 to 5 points (in full steps) for their compliance with the evaluation criteria. These scores will be averaged and a preliminary ranking of candidates will be established. The final ISC recommendation (or rejection of all candidates) will be worked out through a discussion and confirmed by a vote in accordance with the ISC regulations.

- c) copy of the diploma of higher education confirming the obtained master’s degree or an equivalent degree

- e) a certified copy of the PhD diploma and, if applicable, Habilitation Diploma
- f) a list of research, teaching and organizational output and achievements plus an additional section (up to 1 page) presenting up to 3 most important scientific achievements of the candidate from last 10 years in the field in which the research is to be carried out;
- g) other documents certifying additional qualifications
- h) acknowledgement of WUT as a primary place of employment, as defined in the Act of Law on Higher Education and Science
- i) a declaration on:
– the full capacity to perform acts in law
– enjoying full civil rights
– not being convicted by a valid sentence for an intentional crime or an intentional tax offence
– no disciplinary penalty as defined in Article 276 section 1 items 7 and 8 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 being imposed on them.
- PhD in physics or related field providing for an understanding of THz properties of solids;
- Good publication record in the field(s) specified.
- Ability to independently run investigations.
- Good spoken and written English.
- Motivation for research work.

Selected candidates will be invited for interview (online) in front of the committee in October/November 2025. WUT reserves the rights to close the competition without selecting a candidate. In such a case, a new job offer will be announced.
The person will be employed for Project No. FENG.02.01-IP.05-T004/23 titled “CENTERA2 Center for Terahertz Research and Applications”. The project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Funds for Smart Economy 2021-2027 (FENG), Competition of the Foundation for Polish Science, Priority 2 Innovation-friendly environment, Measure 2.1 International Research Agendas.

- The administrator of your personal data is the Warsaw University of Technology with its registered seat at pl. Politechniki 1, 00-661 Warsaw.
- The Administrator has appointed the Inspector for Data Protection (IOD – Inspektor Ochrony Danych), who ensures that the data are processed lawfully, and can be contacted via email: iod@pw.edu.pl: iod@pw.edu.pl.
- The Administrator shall process the personal data included in the documents related to the competition.
- Your personal data shall be processed by the Administrator to run a competition for the position of academic teacher, in compliance with Article 6 section 1 point c) of GDPR.
- The Warsaw University of Technology shall not transfer your data outside the European Economic Area.
- You shall have the right to access your personal data, the right to request the correction or deletion of the data, the right to request a restriction to process your personal data, and object to processing your data. Since the data are not processed based on your consent, the right to data portability does not apply.
