Project
The Competence Centre for Microelectronics and Photonics
Description
The Competence Centre for Microelectronics and Photonics is an initiative aimed at enhancing the innovation capacity of the Polish economy through the reinforcement and establishment of new research and development (R&D) infrastructure. The infrastructure to be strengthened or developed as part of this project will be specifically designed to address the R&D needs of Polish enterprises, with a particular focus on the fields of electronics, microelectronics, photonics, materials engineering, and semiconductor devices. In this context, the project will directly contribute to the development of a knowledge-based economy, a model that leverages knowledge and innovation as the primary drivers of economic growth.
The laboratories of the Centre for Advanced Materials and Technologies (CEZAMAT) at Warsaw University of Technology (CEZAMAT PW) are equipped with state-of-the-art technological infrastructure housed in facilities that provide optimal technical conditions, fully meeting the requirements for conducting research in high-tech fields, particularly in semiconductor, photonic, and microelectronic technologies. As part of this project, the acquisition of new equipment is planned to complement and expand the existing capabilities of the CEZAMAT PW.
The available infrastructure, combined with the new equipment to be procured, will establish a unique technological line at the national level – being the only one in Poland fully adapted to the 200 mm wafer production standard – as well as in this part of Europe, dedicated to the fabrication of photonic integrated circuits and microelectronic devices. Advanced research equipment, particularly in micro- and nanoelectronics and micro- and nanophotonics, requires an exceptionally stringent working environment, which is ensured by the CEZAMAT PW infrastructure.
The laboratories have been strategically designed to facilitate interdisciplinary, synergistic research and development (R&D) activities at the highest level, thereby driving continuous technological advancement and economic growth with a direct impact on society as a whole. Within the Competence Centre, research and development activities will be conducted by teams of scientists, engineers, designers, and specialists from various disciplines, collaborating to develop cutting-edge technological solutions.
