CEZAMAT in the StepDiag Consortium with Funding from the STEP A Competition
The consortium composed of ScreenMed sp. z o.o. (leader) and CEZAMAT of the Warsaw University of Technology has been awarded funding under the STEP A – Biotechnologies competition implemented by the National Centre for Research and Development. The StepDiag project was ranked among the highest-scoring proposals, confirming its strong scientific merit and its importance for the advancement of modern diagnostic technologies.
The total project budget amounts to PLN 9,992,666.43.
The StepDiag project focuses on the development and validation of innovative, functionalized magneto-catalytic nanoparticles as a core component of next-generation in vitro diagnostic systems for Point-of-Care Testing (POCT). These next-generation nanoparticles will exhibit triple functionality, combining magnetic properties, catalytic activity, and high selectivity toward selected medical biomarkers.
Within the project, the nanoparticle technology will be integrated with disposable microanalytical lab-on-foil cartridges and advanced microfluidic platforms, including Digital Microfluidics (DMF) systems. The final solution is intended to enable rapid, sensitive, and cost-effective detection of biomarkers in various biological samples, such as blood, saliva, and urine, outside laboratory environments.
The project will be implemented in three research and development phases, encompassing nanoparticle synthesis and validation, test cartridge design, and the development of analytical readers and software.
CEZAMAT’s participation in the StepDiag project represents another example of effective knowledge and technology transfer, as well as the Centre’s commitment to advancing breakthrough solutions at the intersection of science, engineering, and medicine.
