HyFiDress Workshop 4: New frontiers in antimicrobial wound dressings

29 May 2026

Nowadays, the development of advanced wound care solutions increasingly requires an interdisciplinary approach that combines biomaterials science, microbiology, translational research, and clinical applications. In this workshop, participants will explore emerging concepts and recent advances in antimicrobial wound dressings, with a particular focus on novel antimicrobial agents and their integration into next-generation wound care systems. The course is designed to provide both fundamental scientific knowledge and insight into current translational and clinical challenges in the field.

During this hybrid, discussion-oriented workshop, participants will gain insight into innovative antimicrobial strategies and advanced biomaterials used in wound healing applications. Special attention will be given to the selection, functionality, and implementation of novel antimicrobial compounds in modern dressing systems, as well as their role in improving wound healing outcomes.

In the second part of the workshop, participants will become familiar with alternatives to in vivo animal models, including organoids and other advanced testing approaches. Additional sessions will address clinical trials, regulatory requirements, and translational pathways necessary for successfully introducing antimicrobial wound dressings to the market. These activities will provide attendees with a broader understanding of how innovative biomaterials move from laboratory research to real clinical applications.

The workshop will be delivered by experts from academia, including the Jožef Stefan Institute and the University of Porto, healthcare institutions, including UHREG, as well as industrial partners, offering a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange, networking, and collaboration in an international scientific environment.

Participants are kindly encouraged to familiarize themselves with the detailed agenda provided with this announcement.

We warmly invite all interested researchers, PhD students, clinicians and professionals to participate in this interactive and interdisciplinary workshop!
